Ampuhnya Resep Baru Arsene Wenger

Arsenal mengawali musim ini dengan tidak meyakinkan, kalah 3-4 dari Liverpool di partai perdana lalu ditahan 0-0 oleh Leicester City. Tapi saat ini setelah sepuluh pekan mereka berada di posisi kedua, hanya kalah selisih gol dari pimpinan klasemen klasemen Manchester City. Kalau dianalisis, ada setidaknya tiga faktor penting dari pencapaian Arsenal ini.

Agaknya Wenger sejak awal sudah memutuskan bahwa dengan formasi 4-2-3-1 yang akan menjadi penyerang tunggal di musim ini adalah Alexis Sanchez (dalam 10 pekan mencatatkan 6 gol 3 assist). Mesut Ozil (3 gol 1 assist) mendukung dibelakangnya sebagai gelandang serang. Theo Walcott (5 gol 2 assist) ternyata lebih trengginas jika berkonsentrasi sebagai sayap kanan daripada menjadi penyerang seperti musim-musim sebelumnya.

Faktor lain yang tak kalah penting adalah kebijakan transfer yang bagus di awal musim. Bek tengah berkebangsaan Jerman  Shkodran Mustafi yang konon didatangkan dengan biaya transfer 35 juta poundsterling dari Valencia sudah menjadi bek tengah pilihan utama berpasangan dengan Laurent Koscielny (2 gol). Gelandang Swiss Granit Xhaka (1 gol) yang konon didatangkan dengan nilai transfer 30 juta poundsterling dari Borussia Monchengladbach cukup mampu bersaing meperebutkan satu posisi di posisi gelandang bertahan dengan Santi Cazorla (2 gol 2 assist), Francis Coquelin dan rekrutan baru lainnya, Mohammed Elneny (1 assist).

Rekrutan mahal lain yaitu penyerang Lucas Perez dijadikan pelapis Alexis Sanchez. Penyerang berkebangsaan Spanyol ini konon biaya transfernya dari Deportivo La Coruna mencapai 17.1 juta poundsterling. Rob Holding, bek tengah berkebangsaan Inggris yang didatangkan dari Bolton Wanderers sudah tampil tiga kali untuk Arsenal di EPL.

Faktor ketiga adalah Arsenal menghargai persaingan antar pemain memperebutkan posisi inti. Posisi gelandang sayap kiri yang tadinya milik Alex Oxlade Chamberlain (1 gol 1 assist) sekarang beralih ke Alex Iwobi (3 assist). Penyerang andalan tahun lalu, Olivier Giroud walau selalu tampil sebagai pemain pengganti saat ini sudah mencatatkan 2 gol. Begitupun Kieran Gibbs (1 assist) sepertinya masih berusaha untuk menggeser posisi bek kiri dari Nacho Monreal ().
